Notes about discrimination

Notes by Palestinian and British kids on the Film Day ...

(1) This was the main reason to make films

(2) There is freedom here in Britain and not in Palestine - You can travel without ID here and not in Palestine

(3) It was sometimes hard to find out the situation in Britain, for example when we asked in youth clubs about racism, people said that everyone has the same opportunities

(4) There is a bit of discrimination here, no country is perfect, and in Britain there is a bit of discrimination but it is nothing like the situation in Palestine.

(5) Discrimination here is more behind the scenes.

(6) In Palestine, there is discrimination between people with IDs of different colours - some can go to Jerusalem, some cannot

(7) People who come from the country [Palestine] can't travel, but visitors can go wherever they want

(8) The Israeli army deals with people in a bad way: even for peaceful acts against the Occupation, people get beaten

(9) In England, we take it for granted we can go to school or hospital - In Palestine, people often have to go to the other side of the Wall and that makes it very difficult

(10) We should appreciate what we have got, specially in Britain.

(11) The earth is for us to share, whatever colour we are - we hope that one day that is the real situation.

(12) One big difference between here and Palestine is that here in Britain, if there is discrimination, something can be done about it. But in Palestine, Palestinians are bullied all the time by Israeli soldiers and nothing can be done about it.

(13) Israelis can travel around Palestine and do what they want. But for Palestinians, travelling is hard. There isn't an airport and they have to travel to Jordan before they go anywhere else.

(14) There is discrimination between Israelis and Palestinians about the land and who can live there. Palestinian land is taken for Israeli settlements that only Israelis can live in. And although people with Jewish family can move into Israel and into the settlements on Palestinian land, Palestinians are pushed off the land, things are made hard for them and they are encouraged to move out of the country.
